Gummy Bear set to take Crazy Frog’s mantle

He’s green, he’s a bear and he wears yellow underwear – meet Gummy Bear, the heir to Crazy Frog’s mantle as the purveyor of the most annoying song of the summer.

The animated animal launches his single, I Am Your Gummy Bear (The Gummy Bear Song), on Monday and he’s already a grest success in the US, Australia, Spain, France, Germany as well as his native Hungary.

The tune has made it into the top 20 across the globe and the accompanying ringtone is an even bigger hit.

It was first released in Hungary, where it spent an astonishing eight months as the No.1 tone.

The Gummy Bear phenomenon has been even more frightening on the internet – 14million people have watched the video on YouTube.

Gummy Bear says on his website: ‘People from every country love to watch me sing and dance. ‘I sing in English, Hungarian, French, Spanish and Swedish and I am learning new languages every day.’

The English version of the song, written by Christian Schneider from Germany, has lyrics: ‘Oh I’m a Gummy Bear/Yes I’m a Gummy Bear/Oh I’m a yummy tummy funny lucky Gummy Bear.’

But the tortuous fun doesn’t end there.

There’s an album with covers of songs so infuriating only a jelly cartoon character would dare reprise them.

Want to hear I’m The Scatman in a high-pitched voice? Or Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini?

Unfortunately, there is nowhere to hide, though. Gummy Bear is a global ringtone phenomenon, with a sinister message: “I am learning new languages every day.”
