Tokyo is centered around a huge palace named the Tokyo Imperial Palace (at the former site of Edo castle). Tokyo station is next to the Imperial Palace. It’s the hub of Tokyo’s train system that connects Tokyo to the rest of Japan. Tokyo station (along with the Imperial Palace) is the center of Tokyo. The neighbourhoods directly surrounding the Imperial Palace are Tokyo’s oldest neighbourhoods. The geography of downtown Tokyo, as well as uptown and midtown, is characterized by train lines. The downtown Tokyo train line is 34.5 kilometers (21.4 miles) around.
